KNUST, Suame Magazine announce partnership to redefine engineering
The College of Engineering of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and the Suame Magazine in Kumasi are building a strong partnership to push for more women in engineering and reposition themselves to take full advantage of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
Per the new arrangement, KNUST is expected to make available its research findings to Suame Magazine, the industrialised area with many workshops for metal engineering and vehicle repairs.

The research to be championed by women will focus more on all kinds of engineering regimes but which are environmentally friendly to Ghana while allowing students of KNUST to have practical training before completion of school.
Beyond that, the two are expected to jointly manufacture and market such products taking full advantage of the AfCFTA.
Launch
At a ceremony to mark the 50th-anniversary celebration of the Technology Consultancy Centre (TCC) of KNUST and the World Engineering Day celebration at the Intermediate Technology Transfer Unit (ITTU) at Suame magazine, the Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and the Member of Parliament for Suame constituency, Mr Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, challenged both parties to leverage on their resources to help the industry to grow.
The celebration was themed: “Building Back Wiser" with a focus on women in engineering.
The Majority Leader said the university should also be ready to engage with industries, seek solutions to industrial problems and work with them to enhance the competitiveness of their product offerings.
Women
The Minister, who is also the head of government business, advised students especially females to enrol in engineering at the tertiary level to use the knowledge and skills acquired to offer meaningful services to the country.
He said women in technology have a role to play in the development of every nation and that it will help elevate them and add value to their lives.
Mr Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu said if engineering is taken seriously, it will help in the production of food to ensure food security and offer employment and impact the health of the people.
“To accentuate women's involvement in engineering, it is important for a national crusade to encourage young women to consider engineering as an option to be pursued vigorously,” he said.
Mr Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu encouraged practical engineering applications in the teaching of the courses to be very friendly to students especially girls to enhance their interest.
He encouraged the students especially the females to build their confidence level in their chosen field and be able to match up with their male counterparts.
Provost
The Provost of the College of Engineering, KNUST, Prof. Mark Adom-Asamoah, insisted that the college has been at the forefront of the training engineers for Ghana and remained the single largest contributor to engineering education in Ghana.
He said the college will collaborate with agencies to help find solutions to the challenges of engineering in the country.
The Provost urged students at the SHS level especially females to consider a career in engineering to empower them in a special way to serve humanity.
