KNUST launches inaugural research week
The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has taken a significant step in promoting research and driving academic excellence with the launch of its inaugural Research Week.

Themed "Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Science and Technology for a Sustainable Future," this week-long event aims to advance knowledge in science and technology by creating an enabling environment for relevant research, quality teaching, entrepreneurship training, and community engagement to enhance the overall quality of life.
KNUST, known for its research-intensive agenda, seeks to highlight the ingenious research conducted by its faculty, students, and partners across a wide range of disciplines.
The launch of this celebration, held on Monday, May 29, 2023, coincided with the 10th anniversary of the Office of Grant and Research (OGR), established by KNUST in 2013 to provide research management services and support research activities.
The Research Week includes various events such as a scientific conference and symposium, culminating on the night of Friday, June 2, 2023, with the inaugural Research Excellence Awards held at the Great Hall of KNUST.
These awards aim to recognize researchers who have made outstanding contributions to KNUST's grant portfolio and research enterprise.
Distinguished guests at the launch included Ambassador Nana Effah-Apenteng, Chairman of the KNUST Council, and Professor Ellis Owusu-Dabo, Pro Vice-Chancellor and Board Chair of OGR.

The celebration features renowned speakers such as Professor Richard Adanu, Rector of the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons; Kosi Yankey-Ayeh, Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Enterprises Agency; and Professor Solomon Ofori-Acquah, Director of the West African Genetic Medicine at the University of Ghana.
In a bid to inspire young minds, KNUST is opening its doors to students from Junior High Schools in the local area, providing them with exposure to career opportunities in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) research.
Professor Mrs. Rita Akosua Dickson, the Vice Chancellor of KNUST, emphasized the university's commitment to research as reflected in its 2020-2024 Action Plan.
This plan aims to position KNUST as a globally competitive research-intensive institution, driving advancements in science and technology for industrial and social progress, and contributing to sustainable development on both national and global levels.
