Kajeji SHS cries for infrastructure

Parts of the Kajeji Senior High School (SHS) in the Sene East District in the Bono East Region holds classes in the dining hall and in uncompleted structures.

Indeed, a good part of the 1,162 student population also study in open structures in one of the poorest second cycle school environments in the country.

For the most part, the school or some section is compelled to abandon classes altogether when it rains.

The school has currently converted the administration block into a classroom facility, while the administration has taken over a single classroom .

These came to light when the Bono East Regional Minister, Mr Kwasi Adu-Gyan, paid a working visit to the school as part of his three-day tour of the area.

The Assistant Headmaster in charge of Administration, Mr Anthony Kwarteng Tawiah, told the Daily Graphic that meals were prepared for students in an open area as the school kitchen was in a deplorable state.

Whenever it rained, he added, the cooks had to halt activities.

Mr Tawiah also said the school had no official vehicle.

Minister’s visit

On his first visit since assuming office as the second regional minister of the area, Mr Adu-Gyan also visited the chiefs in the Sene East and Sene West districts on the first day of the tour.

He was accompanied by some heads of department, regional commanders of the various security agencies and some regional and constituency executives of the New Patriotic Party.

At Kajeji, the Akyeamehene of the Nkomi Traditional Council, Nana Kuruku Sunkwa Osore III, appealed to the minister to lobby for development for the area.

He said the area lacked school and market infrastructure, good roads, among others.

Nana Osore further called on the minister to facilitate the construction of the Atebubu-Kwame Danso road, explaining that the bad road had facilitated armed robbery activities along that stretch.

Concerns

At Kwame Danso in the Sene West District, the Benkumhene of the Dwan Traditional Area, Nana Agyei-Sarpong, said some government workers refused posting to the area because of the bad nature of the Atebubu-Kwame Danso road.

Nana Agyei-Sarpong called on the minister to facilitate the deployment of more police personnel in the area to combat crime.

He also appealed for more doctors to be posted to the district hospital, saying there was only one doctor serving both Sene East and Sene West districts.

At Bassa, the Bassamanhene, Nana Owusu Sekyi III, appealed to the minister to facilitate the upgrading of the Bassa Community Day SHS to a boarding institution.

He also called for the completion of the Nyankontre Market and the police barracks at Bassa to improve economic activities and security in the area.

Minister’s response

Mr Adu-Gyan pledged the government's commitment to complete the Atebubu-Kwame Danso road and other ongoing development projects in the area.

He also promised to facilitate the deployment of more police personnel in the area to curb crime.

Mr Adu-Gyan appealed to the chiefs to resolve the numerous chieftaincy disputes in the region to promote development.

He said an agro processing factory would be established to process agricultural products to create more employment opportunities for the youth in the area.

Mr Adu-Gyan said the move would help make farming more lucrative and appealed to the chiefs to release lands for projects in their various districts.
