Depend on yourselves for success - Central Tongu Education Director advises BECE candidates

The Central Tongu District Director of Education in the Volta Region, Happy Tsifoku has advised candidates of this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) to rely on their own preparations towards the examination, which comes off from Monday, August 7 to Friday August 11, 2023 across the country.

She said teachers in their various schools had adequately prepared them to enable them to write the examinations independently without any assistance.

According to the Central Tongu District director, apart from the internal preparations by the various schools including mock examinations aimed at adequately preparing the candidates, there were district’s super mocks out of which the candidates were graded.

BECE Summit

Ms Tsifoku was speaking at the closing session of a BECE summit organised by Education Innovators Ghana, an educational organisation which prepares BECE and WASSCE candidates through summits and science practicals throughout the whole country.

This year’s BECE summit, which took place in many districts in the Volta, Eastern, Ashanti and Greater Accra regions, covered 20,000 BECE candidates who took part in the science practical and super mock examinations.

“To top up, you have had science practicals, BECE summit and above all, you have just finished with what I will describe as super, super mock organised by the Education Innovators Ghana, which put you in your proper perspectives with regards to the BECE.

Those who are fully prepared are confident to face the examinations head on,” she stated.

She said many a time, some of the candidates who were not adequately prepared made up their minds to cheat which did not show the actual performance of the candidates.

She explained that every examination like the BECE had rules and regulations which would not permit any lazy candidate to disturb the hard working ones, saying “those who have made up their minds to cheat will not have their way and it is better they sit up, revise and depend on their own abilities and not to parasite”.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Educational Innovators (EIG), Francis Teye Doku in his closing remarks, said his organisation had demonstrated enough practical lessons in the science subjects, which most people perceived to be very difficult.

“After all, you have now seen that there is nothing difficult about science provided you take what we have done seriously,” he said.

A number of BECE candidates in the participating districts and municipalities, who interacted with the Daily Graphic, expressed their readiness for the forthcoming examination.
