According to them, the rigorous information and communication technology (ICT) training received had made significant impact on their lives both financially and education wise by providing career pathways that made them employable and set them apart from their colleagues.

The beneficiaries, who have all gone through the training and are currently working with the institute, are Barbara Addison, Alex Ossom, Solomon Owusu Achiaw, Matilda Dwamena and Harrison Ofori Ahego.

Bridging gap

Implemented by Datamaker in collaboration with the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), the training is under a five-year project to help bridge the unemployment gap and create jobs for marginalised individuals in the country.

That was the driving force for the setting up of the institution to give those marginalised individuals ICT and data labelling education to open them up to opportunity and increase their employability, especially in the area of ICT and labelling.

The training is on the theme, “Training AI data labelling workforce to create non-contact jobs through decent ICT education programmes in Ghana.”

The beneficiaries took turns to recount how the training had been able to turn their lives around and pave a career path for them.

Contributing, Ms Addison stated that the training had helped her acquire skills in data labelling while financially relieving her of depending on her parents for funds.

She explained that she gained hands-on experience working with large datasets, annotating and labelling data, and ensuring the quality and accuracy of the labelled information.

“I could further advance in the field of data labelling and proceed into data science by leveraging the knowledge and skills I could acquire at Datamaker while contributing to real-world projects”, she added.

For Solomon, who joined the training after national service, he described the training experience as one that aligned with principles that exemplified skills to constantly evolve, empower its employees and provide opportunities for growth.

To those who were considering to join Datamaker, “I encourage you to embrace change and allow yourself to grow.

“Step out of your comfort zone, even if it feels unfamiliar or daunting at first.

Embracing discomfort is a catalyst for personal and professional development, and the key to unlocking your true potential.

“The company’s support and opportunities have given me stability and a chance to pursue my passion for fashion alongside my new responsibilities as a mother,” Ms Dwamena, another beneficiary, who is a fashion designer working with the institution, stated.

Describing his experience with Datamaker as “an incredible journey”, 21-year-old Mr Ahego narrated his struggle in life until coming into contact with Datamaker.

“I am immensely grateful for the opportunities and positive impact that this company, Datamaker, has had on my life,” he said.

For his part, Ossom said all the hardships he encountered in this life’s journey had been transformative because, “I transformed my setbacks into valuable lessons and worked tirelessly to improve myself.

“I am immensely grateful to Datamaker for providing me with this opportunity to grow and succeed,” he said.
