Established 25 years ago, with a population of 650 students, the school operates as a day and boarding facility but lacks adequate infrastructure.

According to the headmaster of the school, Mr Simon Aklomasa Addae-Conutsey, the school did not have a single dormitory for the 210 boarding students compelling the authorities to convert some classrooms into dormitories for the students.

He said even that was still inadequate, thus, forcing some of the students to rent rooms in town.

Presentation

Mr Addae-Conutsey expressed the sentiments in an interview with the Daily Graphic when the National Lottery Authority (NLA) presented a photo-copier machine, a ristograph, and a printer worth GHC13,440 to the school for administrative purposes.

He explained that due to the computer placement system, students from other regions got posted to the school but went through difficulties in terms of accommodation.

Unconducive environment
He said the conversion of some classrooms to dormitories had affected the Literature, History and Government students who took their lessons under trees.

That, he said, was affecting the academic performance of students and promoting truancy and deviant behaviours, especially among students who stayed outside the school as a result of lack of supervision.

Mr Addae-Conutsey appealed to the government and philanthropists to support the school to get some dormitories and an assembly hall as the school prepared to celebrate its silver jubilee.

The presentation from the NLA has helped the school to address issues concerning printing of internal examination papers and other documents outside the school’s premises.

Gratitude
The headmaster said it would help the school greatly in dealing with frequent internal examination leakages, stressing, “we are happy to receive this important equipment because this is the first time this school is having a photocopier machine”.

The General Manager of Security and Special Projects of the NLA, Lt.Col Yaw Dzotefe Mensah (retd), stated that the presentation was part of the NLA’s social responsibility as the authority believed that without adequate logistics, it would be impossible to provide quality education for students.

He advised the students not to allow the problems confronting the school to affect their performance but rather focus on their studies to make their parents proud.
