The Kwabre East District Directorate of Education in the Ashanti Region, after studying the situation, has advised the authorities of the school to close it down for some time.

The Headmistress of the school, Mrs Grace Ayi, confirmed the story but could not give details of the development.

However, checks made by the Daily Graphic showed that some students of the school had been complaining of headache and other illnesses which are symptoms of typhoid and other diseases.

When contacted, the Deputy Ashanti Regional Manager of the SDA Education Unit, Mr Charles Ankra, said although the unit had not received an official report on the matter, it was aware the school was preparing to go on midterm holidays on Thursday, June 9, 2016.

He said the authorities of the school were being more considerate to the students and were prepared to allow those complaining of the various illnesses to go home ahead of the midterm holidays.

That, he anticipated, would offer those students the opportunity to visit health facilities to get medically fit before returning to school.

“As far as I know, the closure of the school is not for any serious detection of an outbreak of typhoid but to enable the affected students to examine themselves medically during their midterm holidays,” he stated.

He said the unit was collaborating with the school authorities and the district directorate of education to investigate the suspected spread of typhoid.
