Two beneficiaries were selected from each of the three traditional councils in the Western, Central and Eastern regions, which are the company’s operational areas.

The Corporate Affairs Manager of the company, Perry Acheampong, said the award, which is the 12th edition of its scholarship package, was an improvement over the previous support.

400 students

Mr Acheampong said since the inception of the scholarship scheme, more than 400 students had benefitted from it, adding, “Apart from providing infrastructure for the people which covers wide areas, raising the educational standard is our priority.”

The focus, he said, was to ensure the support extended to the beneficiaries would raise new generational leaders, who would return to their respective communities and impact lives, as well as serve as motivation for others.

He said the focus was not only on students entering the tertiary levels but also on children in the basic schools within the company’s catchment areas.

“Recently, we provided essential needs such as school uniforms, books and bags to our young ones to relieve some of the burden on the parents and guardians,” he said.

The Chairman of ACLANGO, Nana Kwesi Agyeman IX, commended the company for its continuous support for the communities within its operational areas.

He said naturally, educational scholarships provided an opportunity for many people to go to school and actualise their dreams and support society.

The contribution

The contribution of GREL, he said, was a great feat towards societal change and skills development drive of the country, “and for our children to enter the workforce and contribute towards the development of society”.

One of the beneficiaries, Blessed Nyamakye Ackah Baidoo, who is currently at the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT) on behalf of his colleagues, expressed appreciation to GREL for their immense support.
