Life is what you make it!

“Lights, Camera, Action!” The actors got in place and the show began. But somewhere along the line, the director shouted “cut.” Wondering why, I continued to watch.

The part had to be done all over and looking satisfied, the director yelled “next.” The actors got in place and the camera started to roll.

Like every other year, I am sure 2013 had its challenges and successes. There were some things that you wished you could have done differently. But unfortunately in life there is no leeway to say “cut.”

You can’t cut out a part you don’t like. While there is nothing I can do to go back and change my nutrition and fitness habits at this point, I can choose to get a head start on the New Year by incorporating a few new healthy habits in my life.

It’s not about 2013 being perfect. It’s about finding the lessons in the year and moving on to make better choices in the New Year.

There is a saying that life is what you make it.

Well, by the end of this article, I hope to have helped you decide whether that statement is true or not.

As an advocate for healthy lifestyles, I believe that each individual must take responsibility for their choices. That being said, it simply means that your well-being is a matter of choice. Lifestyle quality is seldom achieved by accident.

In a world of seamless options, which choices will contribute to your general well-being? Undeniably, many factors such as genes and the social condition you live in come into play. Nevertheless, the things you choose to do also has a considerable effect.

When you go out with friends on 31st night and choose to drink yourself into a drunken stupor, it’s your choice. The fact that everyone is drinking does not mean you have to. It may seem simple enough but a lot of people struggle to make good choices on New Year’s Eve.

I am convinced that sometimes we are our own worst enemies when it comes to our health. A case in point is when we make bad lifestyle choices often with the full knowledge of just how bad it is.

If you want a lifestyle that is conducive to your health, you have to make a choice to live that way. Bearing in mind that there are several aspects of well-being that determine a person’s overall state. Combined, these aspects make you a well-rounded individual who is much healthier and happier inside and out.

Some of these lifestyle choices involve our bodies, our minds, our emotional health, and even the relationships we build.

That said, did the choices you made in 2013 lead to the kind of lifestyle you wanted? If you want a healthy lifestyle, you must take steps to ensure that you make good choices spiritually, physically, emotionally, socially and financially. Being healthy in each of these areas is important.

When you are not healthy because of choosing lifestyle inhibiting factors, you are contributing to your unhealthy lifestyle.

So what can you do? Think about the choices that will enhance your well-being not detract from it.

I am challenging you to examine areas of your life, and to set your own goals on how to improve each aspect.

Life is happening, so the question is: Will you passively or actively participate and strive towards achieving the best quality lifestyle possible?

As you look back, what do you think you have learned and what are you going to do differently?

Reflecting on the year in this way will leave you feeling more informed, more positive and with a real sense of knowledge about what you need to do more in the year ahead. Are you ready for a change?

Start today by taking that first step to a more fulfilling lifestyle.

As I sign off, I want to use this opportunity to say thank you for allowing me to inspire you to live healthy in body, mind and spirit in 2013. I look forward to bringing you more in the New Year.

I wish you peace, joy and health as you wrap the year up, and begin your journey towards 2014!  Lights, Camera, Action!
Happy New Year.
