Joshua:Never demoralised by scandals

Allegations of cheating by Joshua Clottey’s girlfriend, who was said to have slept with another man a week to Clottey’s crucial final eliminator bout against Jose Luis Cruz in the US in 2008, became topical in the country.

In his own words, the former IBF welterweight champion claimed he could not sleep after he secretly traced his girlfriend in the cold only to catch him in another man’s bed but the unfortunate incident did not demoralise him during the fight.

But Clottey has since denied ever making such comment, “We had a misunderstanding so she left the room, I followed later but it ended there. I didn’t say I caught my girl in the act and also had sleeplessness nights and as a result lost my fight. I won that fight, if you remember.”

Similarly, he has rejected claims that he did not marry his baby’s mother because he was cheating on her, instead the 38-year-old boxer cited religious differences and the constant quarrels between him and the woman’s mother for the termination of the relationship.

The series of problems encountered in his relationship forced the ex-champion to wade in to the sex scandal between Afriyie Acquah, his wife and Jordan Ayew by advising the Black Stars midfielder to divorce his wife without any hesitation, describing Afriyie’s woman as “stupid and fake girl”.

Joshua is also remembered for his infamous comment of Banku and okro stew after he lost to Manny Pacquiao in an uninspiring fight that incurred the wrath of many Ghanaians.
