TMA rewards winners of Online Essay Competition

Nagerh Oram, a student of the Oninku Drive Number 2 Junior High School has emerged  winner of a maiden online essay competition for children in basic schools in the Tema metropolis.

Nichole Maame Yaa Darkwa of the Tema Pentecost School JHS and Gabriel Tsatsu Ocloo of the  S.D.A JHS  placed second and third respectively.
An awards ceremony has been organised by the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) for  the winners.

The overall winner, Nagerh,  received a laptop and bag, educational materials including a paper file, mathematical set, exercise books, pens, ruler, story books and note books.

The second and third winners   took home  Samsung Galaxy Tablets and  educational materials, including a paper file, mathematical set, exercise books, pens, ruler, story books and note books.

The competition, which attracted over 1,000 students was held in two stages.
The first stage saw participants writing an essay on the topic, “Impact of COVID-19 on the individual, community and the nation”.

Twenty participants came tops after a thorough scrutiny of their various essays and were given the opportunity to move to the second stage.

During the second stage, the participants wrote another essay on the topic, “Poor sanitation is affecting the health of the people in your community, write a letter to the Metropolitan Chief Executive of your Metropolitan Assembly outlining the causes of the problem and suggest ways of improving sanitation”.

The Metro Chief Executive for Tema, Mr Felix Mensah Nii Annang-La  congratulated the participants on taking part in the competition and urged other children to develop special interest in subsequent years.

He explained that the competition was organised to help  children study during the COVID-19 pandemic, adding that the assembly would sustain it  after  COVID-19 to improve on the standards of education in the metropolis.

“Successful implementation of the Online Essay Competition initiative received lots of commendation from within and outside the metropolis. The assembly will continue to design and implement innovations towards ensuring that our students are not worse off,” he added.
 

Mr Annang-La also urged parents to encourage their children to take part in such competitions.

The three awardees expressed excitement about the honour done them and thanked the TMA for organising the competition.
