Letters to the Editor: A peace message; Beware of fraudsters

Ghanaians went to the polls on Monday to elect a new president and parliamentarians.

By now, we all know who the winner is and this is why I’m  urging all Ghanaians to continue to let peace prevail even after the election.

It is well known that women and children bear the brunt of conflicts and wars all over the world. When there is peace during and after elections, children benefit greatly. They are able to go to school without fear of being harmed. Children are not exposed to violence which can make them aggressive and practice what they see. For instance, a child who has not witnessed a fight among political parties will not engage in one.

It is as a result of these that I urge the supporters of the winning political party to be measured in their celebrations. They shouldn’t jubilate with the intention of teasing their opponents who lost the election. Such things could easily spark off fighting and before one realises, there will be fighting all over the country.

I also wish to urge the supporters of the losing parties to accept the results of the election as declared by the Electoral Commission.

They should not engage in any activity that could undermine the peace of our beloved country.

Children can help promote peace after the election by avoiding the temptation to tease the supporters of the losing political parties.

They can encourage adults to tolerate and respect the views of others. If they support a party which they think is best, they should allow others to support parties which appeal to them too.

Children should also avoid being used to spread false information that could create fear and panic in the society.

The security agencies such as the police, army, navy, among others, should patrol drinking spots and night clubs where fights could easily start due to wild jubilations. This way, they could easily curtail such violence immediately  they start. They should be on high alert to detect violence.

Dear Editor,  Christmas is around the corner so there is excitement in the air.

As children, we are always excited about Christmas because it is the time when most of us get new clothes, attend parties, eat food in abundance and also have loads of fun.

However, we should not ignore the fact that there is also a surge in criminal activities.

People troop to the business centres to shop and the crowd and traffic to these places are very heavy and that is when tricksters also take advantage of the situation to  trick their unsuspecting victims. They rob their victims of their money and personal belongings.

There are also pickpockets all around.

Now that children are at home, they should be vigilant and smart at the same time because these tricksters can trick them and steal from the house.

In view of this, as we have fun and do our shopping, we should be careful not to fall prey to these tricksters so we can all celebrate Christmas in peace.
