Eight schools participated in the competition on the theme: ‘Reading makes a difference’.

The competition was in two categories — the junior category which had children from primary school and the senior category, with pupils from the junior high schools.

The junior category participants read a storybook titled Cheat, while those in the senior category read Following my footsteps, which were provided to them by the organisers of the competition to read and answer questions and also participate in oral tests.

Joseph Kwasi Cole from the Unique Child Academy took the first position for the Junior Category, Nhyira Kumea Obeng from the Rising Sun Montessori placed second and Jason Ahiable, also from Unique Child Academy, took the third position.

In the Senior Category, Ebenezer Gmakame from the University Practice JHS A/B - Winneba came first, Deberah Makafui Yeboah of the Unique Child Academy and Erdwinder Charlene Cooper, both of the Unique Child Academy, took the second and third positions respectively.

The Events Coordinator, Ms Esther Edem Tulasi, said the competition was held to promote and encourage children to develop the habit of reading because the act was slowly dying.

She advised parents to invest in their children’s education by ensuring that they read regularly and also download apps which encourage reading onto the phones of children to enhance their knowledge.

Prizes were awarded to the outstanding participants while certificates were presented to the participating schools.
