Aesthetically complete? (2)

This is the continuation of last week’s article on Aesthetically complete?

Doors and windows should not just be used based on their function but also on their effect on the general appearance of the building.

The effect of spectacles on the general appearance of an individual can be likened to the effect of windows and doors to a building.

For example, someone’s sunshade was described as a blackboard, so dark and large. As you decide what to do with your doors and windows consider whether your choice is based on the totality of what they are to provide.

The fact that doors and windows should be strong does not imply that they should be so robust and without form. Good solid timber doors create the sense of security as well as beauty.

There is always a marked difference in the appearance of your home based on the choice of window you use. As you make your choice, let your imagination play on the various looks.

The effect of aluminium profiles on homes will always differ from the traditional louvre system but the louvred window can be enhanced and made equally appealing and as well more functional.

I was thrilled by a TV documentary that showed the various hats and the kind of prestige it accorded to its users. Some were truly very nice and made its wearers handsome or beautiful. So also the roofing of every home is a very prominent feature.

It accords some prestige to the home or otherwise. Colour, type, style and effectiveness of a roof go a long way to add to the fineness of the home.

I have encountered people who have given directions to their houses per the colour or type of roof they have or live near by. The roof, no matter how elaborate it is must be functional.

The roof of every house must provide shade from the sun; prevent rains from entering into the rooms; provide security and keep away intruders like rodents, birds and the like. What then is the use of a leaking roof?

The roof generally signifies completeness, it is the topping of the cake, and hence its beauty is of great essence to the appearance of the home.

The ceiling, the lining of the hat, sometimes appears to be insignificant. But no matter how beautiful, one’s hat would look like, if it cannot be worn, it is more or less dysfunctional. The lining of the hat determines how comfortable the hat is, when worn.

The roofing need a lot of hard wood supports that criss-crosses each other and ends up looking very robust and ugly and to make the internal view of the roofing comfortable to behold, the ceiling is employed.

Ceilings now vary from acoustic plaster boards to POP (Plaster of Paris) to ply panels, to hardwood T & G, to plastic T & G and to other materials like cloth, straw, glass, mirrors and sometimes just the roofing timbers (especially when they are systematically arranged and the timbers well dressed).
