The Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) and Scratch Entertainment Studios, in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, would represent Ghana at this year’s Marché International du Disque et de l'Edition Musicale (MIDEM) in France.
One of the leading international business events and trade shows for the music industry since 1967, MIDEM has attracted several thousand musicians, producers, agents, managers, lawyers, executives, entrepreneurs and journalists from around the globe regularly to the annual event.
This year’s programme will be held in Cannes from June 3 to June 5. Ghana’s delegation will be led by the Minister for Tourism, Culture & Creative Arts, Mrs Elizabeth Ofosu-Agyare.
The rest of the Ghana delegation includes the president of MUSIGA, Bice Osei Kuffour; Associate Director of Scratch Studios, Henry Paa Kwesi Holdbrook-Smith; Wiyaala; Bessa Simons; Dela Botri; Samuel Agyeman and other top music industry executives.
According to the MUSIGA president, next year’s Ghana Music Week Festival (GMW Festival 2017) will be launched at MIDEM 2016 as a way of helping to showcase Ghanaian music and tourism on the global stage.
“The Ghana Music Week Festival and Scratch Studios stands at MIDEM will exhibit material on Ghanaian music and tourism and would heavily promote the next GMW Festival slated for March 2017,” Obour told Showbiz.
According to Christophe Chiappa, Sales Director of MIDEM, there’s a focus on sub-Saharan Africa this year and that makes Ghana’s participation extremely important.
MIDEM’s Artiste Accelerator programme which gives 12 up-and-coming acts selected by the trade show’s Artistic Committee access to mentoring sessions with industry professionals and the ability to perform during the four-day event, will this year include MTN Hit-Maker 2013 winner, Koo Ntakra.
Ghana’s Sarkodie and American producer/rapper, Timbaland, are part of the panel of judges and facilitators at the 2016 MIDEM Artiste Accelerator programme.
