A good one there , GHAMRO

Transparency and communication are the hallmark for any good administration or government.

This is even more true for an organisation such as the Ghana Music Rights Organisation (GHAMRO) which has been rocked by numerous scandals in the past.

Several times, GHAMRO has come under fire by right holders and the public for what appears to be mismanagement of the affairs of the organisation. Showbiz is pleased that the newly elected Rex Omar administration is taking steps to facilitate communication and an open-door approach with the institution with quarterly press briefing known as ‘Time with GHAMRO’.

According to the PRO of GHAMRO, ‘Time with GHAMRO’ is an initiative where the board and management of the institution will brief the media on activities and projects as well as answer questions from media personnel present.

The benefit of this initiative is to bring information to the doorsteps of members and the media to create an atmosphere of transparency and accountability.

There are numerous activities that GHAMRO undertakes such as the collection and disbursement of royalties which many members of the organisation do not seem to understand. By engaging regularly with the media, GHAMRO can educate and sensitise her members and the public concerning many important matters.

Showbiz believes that when the public and right holders are regularly updated about projects and activities, this will go a long way to reducing the suspicion and acrimony that has existed among some members. Showbiz urges other institutions such as FIPAG, and MUSIGA to emulate this project in order to regularly interact with their members.

It is the hope of Showbiz that ‘Time with GHAMRO’ will not be used to settle scores but to educate members especially of new trends such as selling their works digitally, music streaming among others.

It is time to work towards resolving problems than dwelling on issues of the past.
