Apart from his catchy album titles and peculiar costumes, gospel artiste, Nicholas Omane Acheampong, is known for preaching the word of God in his songs.
However, it seems he has joined the fray to talk about the economic hardships the country is currently facing with his latest album, Akuya 57.
The album, recorded by sound engineers, Kojo Akwaboah and Paa in Tema Community 8 and made up of eight songs will be launched at the Glorious Wave Church International, Sakumono, on October 5.
The songs include Akuya 57, Susu Dwene, Yesu Tumi, Aseda and Wojejireje.
On the title track, Akuya 57, which is rendered in highlife, the Zaphenath Panea hit maker blames the economic woes of the country on the insincerity of political leaders who have ruled the country since independence.
Nicholas goes on to sing about how Ghana is blessed with natural resources such as gold, diamond, cocoa, yet, the living conditions of majority of Ghanaians are poor.
Talking to Showbiz about Akuya 57, Nicholas said he was inspired by God to deliver the message to the political leaders of the country.
“I don’t want anyone to think I belong to a particular political party because I do not. God gave me this message to tell the leaders of this country that the country can move forward if they tell Ghanaians the truth”, he said.
Nicholas who describes himself as a devout Christian said even though he believes in the power of prayer, no amount of prayers could change the fortunes of the country if Ghana is “cursed” with bad leadership.
He therefore called on political leaders to shelve insincerity and self-centredness and rather seek the welfare of the people who they represent.
Explaining the meaning of Akuya 57, Nicholas said Ghana gained independence on March 6, 1957, which fell on a Wednesday, thus, the name Akuya 57.
Nicholas who is known for songs such as TabithaKum, Zaphnat Paneah and Mahashala Hashbaz said artistes such as O.J, Joyce Blessing, Supt. Kofi Sarpong, Mary Ghansah and Okyeame Kwame will perform at his album launch.
