Give the women a chance

The issue of sex-for-fame in our entertainment industry is one that Showbiz has had cause to address on numerous occasions. As such, a recent revelation from Wiyaala that many vulnerable young ladies are being taken advantage of is sadly nothing new.

The situation threatens to tarnish the image and reputation of the country’s entertainment industry and has the potential to scare away many talented women from venturing into the industry.

Wiyaala’s comments were made during a talk she gave to students during a cultural festival among selected schools in the Upper West region. At Showbiz, we are pleased that people who are already in the industry, such as Wiyaala, has taken it upon herself to advice students, some of whom are probably dreaming of pursuing careers in the entertainment industry.

The next generation has to be warned about the dangers that exist within the industry so they do not fall prey to such vices. The duty of educating the next generation should not be left to Wiyaala alone. Showbiz is certain that most of the females in the industry have similar stories and must be bold to speak out.

Just as Wiyaala has done, the other celebs also have to make it their duty to embark on similar campaigns. As we mark International Women’s Day, it is important that we make it a priority to empower our women and equip them with the knowledge they need to succeed.

All over the world, women have contributed immensely to the growth of the entertainment industry and it is important that in Ghana, they are given the chance to succeed without being taken advantage of while pursuing their dreams.
