Cameron must reconsider visa restrictions

Ghana and the UK have ties that date back several centuries. It used to be a colonial master-colony relationship many years ago until the Union Jack was lowered for our national flag on March 6, 1957.

Even after statehood, the UK still exercised titular leadership over Ghana until July 1, 1960 when we attained a Republican status.

Once upon a time, citizens of the then Gold Coast used the pound and the citizens travelled on the British passport because at the time we were all considered British citizens.

It is for the long-term relationship between Ghana and the UK, as well as the bond between Ghanaians who have naturalised as British and their relations back home, that the British government ought to take another look at the policy requiring Ghanaian visitors to that country to pay £3,000 as a guarantee for their return.
