Yam prices have risen by 10 per cent to GH¢7.10 per “3-4 tubers.This means that consumers would now pay more for the product compared to the amount they were paying some weeks ago.
Esoko Market Survey showed that prices of pona, another type of yam rose by eight per cent to GH¢ 6.10 per a “medium size tuber.”
Prices of tomato, which made the highest gain in price last two week, recorded the third highest gain last week. It is now selling at GH¢7.60 per “medium size tomato tin.”
Cowpea also gained by three per cent to close the week at GH¢8.60 per “olonka .“
Cassava (Gari) gained by a per centage point to close the week at GH¢ 5 per “olonka.”
Meanwhile the prices of soyabean, groundnut, millet and maize dropped between one and three per cent for the third week in April.
The survey found that an olonka of soyabean, groundnut, millet and maize now sells at GH¢6.40; GH¢13.70 and GH¢5.40 respectively.
Regional price trends
On the various markets, a medium size tin of maize gained two per cent in Kumasi to close the week at GH¢5.50.
It, however, dropped by 13 per cent in Techiman to close the week at GH¢3.50.
The price, however, remained the same on the other markets. Tomato gained 25 per cent in Techiman to close the week at GHc10.
It also gained seven per cent in Takoradi to close the week at GHc15. In Tamale, the commodity gained two per cent to close the week at GH¢5.40.
