Institute of Accountants to host Africa congress

Addressing a gathering at a sponsorship meeting in Accra, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of CIAG, Mr Kwasi Asante, recalled that the institute won a bid in 2012 to organise the congress in Ghana.

He added that the congress would be held from May 14 to 16 this year and it was expected that it would to open up avenues for foreign investments in the country and would create a platform for accountant outside the country and beyond to discuss issues of common interest as well as provide solutions to raising economic issues in Africa.

Mr Asante said some of the main topics to be discussed during the congress would be economic accountability and democracy, adding that those topics were central to the growth and stability of every country’s economy.

“If people take money and they do not account for it, it all boils down to a waste of the country’s resources and this can discourage foreign investments. We need to hold people accountable and do that in a democratic setting that is favourable to the people and the country as a whole,” he explained.

He said other topics to be discussed would include how to promote capital market, public financial management and financial reporting, among others.

He, therefore, appealed to corporate organisations to provide support for CIAG to organise a successful congress and added that its success would raise the profile of the country, the institute as well as the esteemed sponsors.
