Graphic-Business TBSC final: 12 Schools qualify for national quarter finals

Twelve schools will compete at the national quarter final stage of the fifth edition of the Graphic Business- Tertiary Business Sense Challenge (TBSC).

They are Accra Technical University (ATU), Ghana Telecommunication University, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Akenten Appiah-Menkah University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED), Christ Apostolic University College (CAUC) and the Simon Diedong Dombo University of Business and Integrated Development Studies(SDD-UBIDS).

The rest are University of Cape Coast, University of Education Winneba and the Koforidua Technical University, Pentecost University, Academic City University and the University of Ghana.

Last Friday at the auditorium of the University of Professional Studies Accra (UPSA), the University of Ghana retained their title as the Southern Zone champions in the Tertiary Business Sense Challenge version 5.0.

The trio of Caleb Okyere, Peter Emeka Ike and Michael Mensah amassed 41 points to beat Academic City University College's trio of Enoch Banyerah, Eugene Asiedu-Dartey and David Amanor who got 35 points to place second.

Pentecost University's trio of Emmanuel Owusu, Gideon Osei and  Francis Baah came third with a score of 22 points.

The keenly contested quiz which climaxed a three week highly competitive three-zone competition held across the country saw students being challenged on subjects pertaining to their courses in school.

The quiz master Alhassan Trawule asked the students questions on business theories, business case of the day, questions pertaining to the Graphic Business newspaper, calculations and riddles.

In the first round of the five rounds quiz, the University of Ghana won with nine points while Academic University and Pentecost placed second and third respectively with six and two points.

However Academic City came up tops in the second round with eight points on the subject of calculations, while Legon placed second with six points and Pentecost came third with five points.

In round three which was the business case of the day where students are given 10 minutes to solve a business question, Academic City and Legon scored six points apiece while Pentecost University got three points.

The Graphic Business newspaper was the focus in the fourth round and that saw Pentecost and Legon scoring 12 points apiece while Academic City got 11 points.

The fifth and final round had a lowest point with Pentecost University winning a riddle to take three points out of the four riddles the competitors were tasked to answer.

The three schools will be joined by Accra Technical University (ATU) and the Ghana Telecommunication University together with seven others in the middle and northern zones to contest in the national contest in a yet-to-be-announced date.

Mr Franklin Sowa, the director of Marketing of the Graphic communication Group Limited, lauded the students of their display of high business intellect and acumen and charged them to give their best in the national stage.
