Estate developers asked to use solar energy

The president of the Society of Volta River Authority (VRA) Engineers, Mr Darlington Ahuble, has underscored the need for real estate developers to take advantage of solar energy.

He said not only would their homes be in demand but it would also help them save money, considering the high cost of depending on the national grid.

Mr Ahuble gave the advice when he led a team of engineers to tour Strategic Power Solutions (SPS) manufacturing plant at Kpone in the Greater Accra Region.

The SPS plant is to provide companies with solar solutions that will promote human development and human security while providing unlimited power and customised solutions to satisfy different segments of society.

The plant was inaugurated this year by the Strategic Security Systems International (3SiL), the parent-company of SPS.

The purpose of the tour was for the team to familiarise itself with the power generation capacity of the company.

It was also to study the SPS plants and explore the possibilities of establishing a collaboration between the engineers of the two companies in the area of solar energy.

According to Mr Ahuble, the visit was part of their two-day training programme for the engineers of VRA.

Think global

Mr Ahuble said one of the major ways to prepare for the future was for new homeowners to begin to consider ways to introduce the idea of solar into their building plans.

Apart from the fact that solar would help address global warming that threatens human survival, he said it would also contribute to the reduction on the national grid, while providing a cheaper cost in its maintenance.

Touching on the tour, Mr Ahuble said it had exposed the engineers of VRA to know that Ghana was ready to take advantage of solar energy because “now we have a company in the country that produces the panels”.

He said VRA already had a 2.5megawatt solar power plant, which the company intended to increase in the coming years.

Mr Ahuble, therefore, commended the management of SPS for putting in place a manufacturing plant to produce solar panels.

The Chief Executive Officer of SPS, Mr Ofori Boateng, said the company was aimed at providing solar solutions that would promote human development and human security while providing unlimited power and customised solutions to satisfy different segments of society.

He thanked the engineers of the VRA for the tour and gave an assurance that the company would open its doors to them for future collaborations.
