Thomas Partey: I couldn’t sleep the night before Arsenal move

Having grown up in Ghana watching us, now he had a chance to move to the Premier League and experience it first hand -- and the Arsenal fans around the world certainly got him in the mood.

“Well, until the last moment I was not aware,” Partey told Arsenal.com. “My agent called me and said it was going to happen, and I was so happy. I could not even sleep that night -- it was a great feeling.

“I was so happy, I was excited. I was not even here yet and [the fans] were crazy over me, they wanted me to join the club. I received a lot of messages saying, ‘Join the club or we are not sleeping!’ -- it was a great feeling.”

The Arsenal I grew up idolising

Even now, 16 years later, Partey can remember just how good the Invincibles were in their pomp.

Our new midfielder grew up in Ghana watching Arsene Wenger’s famous side of 2003/04, and is excited to follow in their footsteps.

“I feel so great, excited, it is something that makes me feel great, makes me feel important and it is a great feeling to be here,” Partey told Arsenal.com.

The midfielder has been following the exploits of the Gunners over the years

“I have followed Arsenal for a long time. When we were young we used to watch so many games, when they had the Invincibles season in 2004, they were so great. That is when they won the hearts of so many people.

“There were a lot of great players [here at the club] before. Ian Wright was here, Thierry Henry, Patrick Vieira, Pires, Bergkamp was one of the greatest, and that season was great.”
