Unbeaten Charles Narh Tetteh puts his growing reputation on the line tonight against former continental champion Wasiru “Gyata Bi” Mohammed in a compelling generational test at the Tse Annan Memorial Centre in Accra.
Tetteh has spent four years building a reputation as one of Ghana boxing’s brightest prospects. Tonight, that promise faces its sternest examination yet when the youngster meets the vastly more experienced Mohammed in the headline bout of the inaugural Bishop Box Cup in Accra.
The clash at the Tse Annan Memorial Centre, near La Beach, carries considerably more intrigue than a routine main event, as Tetteh is chasing validation against proven opposition, while Mohammed is fighting to show he remains a force capable of returning to title contention.
Tetteh brings a clean 13-0-1 record, including 10 knockouts, into a contest that could accelerate his career. Named Best Boxer of Season One of the Ghana Professional Boxing League in 2022, he has steadily enhanced his credentials, but Wasiru represents a significant step up.
The 30-year-old has won 15 of his 16 professional fights, 13 inside the distance, and possesses the championship experience and punching power to punish any shortcomings in his younger opponent.
That record has not tempered confidence in the Tetteh camp. His manager, Samuel Agyei Darkwah, has previously dismissed Mohammed as a “finished boxer” and predicted his fighter could challenge for a world title within two years. Tonight offers Tetteh the opportunity to substantiate that bold assessment.
Mohammed, meanwhile, has been rebuilding since signing with Bishop Boxing Promotions in April. Promotion CEO and President of the outfit, Dave Bishop, believes the boxer’s “ferocity and finishing ability” can propel him back into title contention, while co-manager John Manfo has backed the experienced Mohammed’s aggressive style and resilience to open the door to bigger fights.
Supporting bouts
The undercard offers its own tests of emerging talent. National super lightweight champion Africanus “Africa” Neequaye, unbeaten in 10 fights with eight knockouts, faces Sunday Adeleye, who has rebounded from a difficult start to win seven consecutive contests.
Unbeaten Emmanuel Mawuli meets the experienced Moses Adjei Selvi over eight rounds at super bantamweight, while 2018 Commonwealth Games medallist Jessie Lartey faces rising George Faho Mensah.
National super welterweight champion Musah Rahman Lawson takes on Dana Kofi, with 2022 Commonwealth Games silver medallist Abraham Mensah facing Ezekiel Annan. Daniel “High Tension” Quaye meets Ernest Ampah over eight rounds at super lightweight.
Tonight’s show is a scaled-down replacement for Bishop Boxing Promotions’ ambitious two-day, 20-fight Best of Bukom Fest, postponed from August 28-29 until March 19-20, 2027, after injuries to three headline fighters.
The festival had also targeted a Guinness World Record for the most professional bouts staged at a single event.
