Wakaso is National Player of the Year

Mubarak WakasoBlack Stars and Espanyol midfielder, Mubarak Wakaso, last Friday shrugged off competition from international teammates Fatau Dauda and Rabiu Mohammed to scoop the Most Outstanding Player of the Year in the Guinness National Player Awards. The ceremony which was graced by dignitaries including the Minster of Youth and Sports, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, SWAG President, Anthony Ackah, old players of the senior national football team among many other personalities also saw the 22- year-old also scooped the highest goal scorer award.

Unfortunately, the player was not around to pick up the two awards just as Ebenezer Assifuah who picked both the Top Scorer and Most Outstanding Player in the Satellites category.

The night also saw local music artists, Sherifatu Gunu and K. K. Fosu backed by the GBC band entertained the crowd, as the 1998/99 squad of the Black Queen awarded with the Old Generation Award.

Adansi Fofie, George Alhassan, Mensah Aguadze, Dodoo Ankrah and Kwame Adarkwa were all presented with the Golden legend Awards, while two ex Black Stars coaches, C. K Gyamfi and Ben Koufie were honoured for their for their contributions between 1963-65.

Emmanuel Boateng took the Top Scorer award for the Black Starlet while his team mate, Emmanuel Oti was adjudged the Most Outstanding Player. Jane Ayieyam picked the top scorer for the female category while Priscilla Okyere won the Most Outstanding Player.

Others such as Elizabeth Addo won Top Scorer and Most Outstanding player for the Black Princessess, while Janet Egyir was the Most Outstanding Player of the year for the Black Queens.
