Volleyball - El-Wak Wings seek sponsorship for African tourney

Ghana's representatives at the 2023 African Volleyball Clubs Championship in Tunisia, El-Wak Wings, have made a passionate appeal to the public and the Ministry of Youth and Sports for assistance to raise the $30,000 needed to participate in the upcoming competition.

The amount will cover their travel expenses, accommodation, feeding and participation fees, in the absence of which the team cannot take part in the May 9 –22 competition. 

Uncertainty

El-Wak Wings Manager, Divine Edem Dotse, told the Daily Graphic that their participation was in limbo unless they were able to raise the money through the intervention by the state or through sponsorship.

"We are very honoured to represent Ghana at the competition and we are confident that with sponsorship, we can bring the trophy home. However, we don't have that amount as I speak to you, so please we are begging the ministry and other well-wishers for assistance,” he said.

El-Wak Wings beat off a strong challenge from their rivals from the security services, Ghana Army and Ghana Police, to win the Greater Accra Volleyball League to earn the right to represent the country in the African Championship.

Mr Dotse revealed that the club’s management was doing all within its means to participate in the competition but was yet to make a breakthrough in its mobilisation efforts.

"We have looked everywhere and taken our own initiative to solicit for funds but to no avail so we are appealing to corporate bodies to help us," he stated.
