The PFAG Black Stars Legends were thrashed 6-2 by the Universal Merchant Bank (UMB) Speed Stars in an entertaining exhibition match at the Adjiringanor Astro Turf on Saturday, September 19, 2026.
The Speed Stars delivered a dominant display against the former Ghana internationals to claim another piece of silverware, just weeks after winning the 2026 Bankers Football Gala title.
UMB’s No. 9, Ishmael Aryee, was the star of the show, scoring four goals in the first half as the bankers raced to a commanding 5-1 lead at the break. Former Black Stars attacker Godwin Attram briefly brought the Legends level at 1-1 with a magnificent free-kick before Aryee and his teammates took control of the contest.
UMB captain and Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Philip Oti-Mensah, led by example as the Speed Stars completed a convincing victory and were presented with the trophy and gold medals at the end of the showcase.
The lively event featured music, food and football, creating a vibrant atmosphere for players, officials, corporate executives and fans who gathered to celebrate the game and strengthen ties between Ghana’s football and corporate communities.
Sammy Adjei started in goal for George Alhassan’s Black Stars Legends, with John Paintsil, Daniel Opare, Afo Dodoo and Jerry Akaminko forming the back four.
Mohammed Gargo and Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu operated in midfield, while Godwin Attram played ahead of the duo. Yaw Preko and Haminu Dramani provided width, with Kwame Ayew leading the attack.
The UMB Speed Stars fielded a strong line-up featuring Dennis Nyaku, Kingsley Sesenu, Christian Boakye, Richard Sarfo, Patrick Afrifa, Emmanuel Essien, Adu Francis, Abdul Rahman Musa, Samuel Sackey, Akplome Agbeshie and Christian Boakye Boateng, among others.
The exhibition match was held under the auspices of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the Professional Footballers Association of Ghana (PFAG), bringing together some of Ghana’s most celebrated former internationals and leading figures from UMB for a football showcase aimed at fostering closer cooperation between the football and corporate sectors.
The event was graced by GFA President and CAF Second Vice-President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku as the special guest, alongside GFA Director of Marketing Jamil Maraby.
Following the trophy presentation, UMB presented a GHS 30,000 cheque to the Professional Footballers Association of Ghana (PFAG), led by its captain, Yaw Preko.
UMB has further strengthened its commitment to Ghanaian football after signing on as the headline sponsor of the Division One League for the next three years. The bank is also an official Banking Partner of the Ghana Football Association.
The exhibition provided another opportunity for UMB and the football community to celebrate their shared passion for the sport, while highlighting the bank’s continued commitment to supporting the growth and development of Ghanaian football.
