The forgotten hero?

His dreams of playing in the World Cup were crashed following an injury he sustained in Ghana’s final warm-up matches ahead of the 2014 mundial.

Until then Jerry Akaminko seemed to have formed a formidable partnership with John Boye at the rear of Ghana’s national team before the unfortunate incident curtailed achieving the lifetime dreams.

Since then, the 27-year-old Eskişehirspo player has been relegated to the background as far as international duties are concerned, although he has made a remarkable recovery since his injury in 2014 in the USA.

Akaminko’s journey to stardom started with Kpando-based side Heart of Lions, where he captained the team before moving to Turkish side, Orduspor, in 2008, where he signed a two-year contract subject to renewal.

Earlier this year, it was reported that the Turkey-based player was at the verge of joining Israeli league club, Maccabi Tel Aviv but unfortunately the deal could not materialise.

The player who was once nominated for the best defender in the Ghana league made his debut for the national team during Ghana’s World Cup qualifier in Kumasi in 2012 against Lesotho and scored in that match.
