Sharks devour Inter Allies in Accra

Elmina Sharks scored twice within three minutes in the second half to earn a hard-fought 3-2 victory over an Inter Allies side that were very wasteful in the Ghana Premier League (GPL) game at the Accra Sports Stadium yesterday.

Bernard Boateng and Ralph Ocloo’s goals in the 63rd and 66th minutes respectively did not only secure Sharks a vital away victory but also gave them their first win in this season’s campaign.

Having lost to Bechem United aside of two consecutive draws in their opening three league games, the Elmina-based club forced an important win in Accra by taking their chances.

The hosts looked promising in the early stages of the game as they went in search of the opener but Sharks’ defence was alert to avoid any danger.

It did not take long for Benjamin Tweneboah to silence the handful of home fans in the 10th minute when he stubbed the ball home from a free-kick after Inter Allies failed to clear their lines properly.

Despite going down early in the game, Inter Allies commanded the lion’s share of possession and fought strongly for the equaliser but were not clinical up front.

With their hopes of coming back into the game with an equaliser fading, Allies’ skipper Victorien Adebayo provided their fans with something to cheer about.

He levelled up for the hosts just before the end of the half with a brilliant left footed effort that goalkeeper Lord Martey had no answer to.

After the recess, Allies decided to go all out in search of the lead and in the 56th minute, Kingsley Braye missed the target after his rebound failed to hit the target for the hosts.

Seven minutes after his miss, Allies were punished by Sharks when Bernard Boateng kept his composure to lob the ball over onrushing goalkeeper, George Apronti, after a fine run on the left in the 63rd minute to give the Elmina-based side the lead.

Sharks quickly got their third goal after 66 minutes when a sweet volley from Ocloo gave the visitors the needed cushion.

Nevertheless, Allies maintained their impressive play despite conceding two goals in three minutes as Adebayo beat his marker and crossed the ball to Samuel Abban who headed home from the edge of the box.

Sharks were resilient in the final minutes of the game to hold on to a much needed win away from home.
