Members of Zebi & Friends, a group made up of retired footballers, have undertaken a comprehensive health screening exercise aimed at promoting preventive healthcare and healthy living among its members.
The exercise, held on Saturday, August 22, near the Osu Oxfords Street was organised in partnership with Health Enhancement and Access Link (HEAL).
About 25 members participated in the exercise, which saw a medical team from HEAL take them through various stages of the screening process.
The screening covered a range of essential laboratory investigations, including Blood Sugar (HbA1c), Cholesterol (Lipid Profile), Kidney Function Test (RFT), Liver Function Test, Full Blood Count (FBC), and Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA) tests.
According to the organisers, the laboratory services were offered at discounted prices as part of the partnership with HEAL, allowing members to access important medical checks at a reduced cost.

The exercise also provided an opportunity for the medical team to educate participants on the importance of regular health checks and making appropriate lifestyle choices.
The team urged the retired footballers to be particularly mindful of their dietary intake and general lifestyle, stressing that nutritional and health needs require greater attention as people advance in age.
Members were encouraged to maintain healthy eating habits and seek regular medical examinations to facilitate the early detection and management of potential health conditions.

The exercise underscores the growing importance of preventive healthcare among retired sportsmen, many of whom remain physically active but may face health challenges associated with ageing.
The leadership of Zebi & Friends expressed appreciation to HEAL for partnering with the group to provide the screening and health education, describing the initiative as an important step towards safeguarding the wellbeing of its members.
