Ornella Sathoud out of Commonwealth Games, lost to Kerry Davis

Team Ghana's sole female boxer, Ornella Sathoud lost 0-4 to England's Kerry Davis in the women's middleweight Round of 32 clash at the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

Ornella, who started on a bright note in the first round, failed to keep up the momentum in the second and final rounds and allowed Kerry to come back into the fight.

The 34-year-old's defeat to Kerry starts Ghana's boxing campaign at the multi-sport competition on a bad note.

In an interview with the Graphic Online after her defeat, Ornella admitted that her decision to be strategic in the second and third rounds affected her performance.

She explained that the fight was a close call and looks forward to qualifying to the Olympic Games in Paris, France in 2024.

"I am not disappointed with my performance because it was an improvement on my previous performances at international competitions.

"The plan was to be strategic in the second and final rounds but that affected my performance and I have to look forward to participating in the Olympics in 2024," Ornella said.

Meanwhile, Team Ghana will have two boxers --- Abdul Wahid Omar and Shakul Samed fight at 5pm Ghana time.

Omar, a 2014 bronze medalist at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, will lock horns with Jamie Devine of Isle of Man in a light welterweight contest.

On the other hand, Olympian Samed will face Rosalba Jean Luc of Mauritius in a light heavyweight clash.
