Great Olympics coach promises strong comeback to recapture top spot

Accra Great Olympics gaffer Annor Walker, has described their recent defeats to city rivals, Legon Cities and Cape Coast Mysterious Dwarfs as a temporal setback even though it cost them the top position of the Ghana Premier League.

Olympics' bubble appeared to have been burst following a 0-2 loss to Cities and a scoreless draw with Asante Kotoko and a 4-1 thumping by Dwarfs in Cape Coast last week, but their experienced trainer is hopeful the Wonder Club can draw positives from these setbacks and turn things around as they host a rejuvenated Liberty Professionals in Accra on Sunday.

“Such defeats are part of football and make leagues very competitive and attractive all over the world. Our fans should therefore not be deterred because the defeats have rather galvanised both the technical team and players to work harder than before. We will surely bounce back strongly to reclaim the top position” Coach Walker gave the assurance during an interview with Graphic Online.

Setbacks
Three successive victories against Chelsea, Dreams FC and Medeama SC propelled Olympics to the top position of the league, but they lost subsequently lost their hold on the top after a series of setbacks to slip to the fourth position on the log with 34 points from 21 matches, two points behind leaders Medeama who leapfrogged Kotoko with a 2-1 with a Obuasi last Sunday.

Coach Annor Walker is confident the Wonder Club would stage a comeback

Walker, who was recently appointed as head coach of the home-based national team, Black Stars B, admits his side have some tough matches ahead beginning with Saturday's local derby with Liberty after which they play against WAFA at Sogakope and against Aduana Stars in Accra.

He said the upsets have been a wake-up call for the team to work hard to reclaim the top position.

"Currently Olympics are playing better than all the participating teams, so we will certainly reclaim the top position to silence our critics,” said and revealed his plans to accumulate at least seven points out of a maximum nine from their next three matches against Liberty, WAFU and Aduana.
