NDC, NPP draw in peace match

A peace soccer match to sensitise supporters of the NDC and NPP to forge together in peace and unity took place last Saturday at the Karikari Brobbey Park at Dansoman in Accra.

The event, which was also to preach and promote peace ahead of the verdict from the Supreme Court on the election petition, saw players of the two political parties,  drawn from the Greater Accra Region,  display their talents in the game.

Dressed in blue and green jerseys with the insignia of all political parties embossed on them, under the theme, ‘’Let Peace Reign’’, participants enjoyed the game for 90 minutes with scores ending even.

The unique soccer encounter also attracted players from other political groupings including the CPP, PNC, GCPP, PPP and the Egle Party.

According to Daniel Edusei, Director of Life’s Skool Foundation, organisers of the event, the symbolic peace match was to bring all political parties together.

‘’We are one people, one family, and not enemies, this petition and court case must not separate us and divide our front’’, he told the Graphic Sports.

Mr Edusei said the event would be replicated in all regions. He said his NGO chose soccer, which is a national past-time and the nation’s number sport, to send its message across.

He noted that just like soccer, where a winner and a loser would be recorded, so must people come to a realization that the Supreme Court verdict would create a winner and a loser.

"Therefore, all must accept the results of the Supreme Court’’, Mr Edusei added.
