Mech Engineering wins UMaT Vice-Chancellor’s Challenge Cup

The Mechanical Engineering Department of the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT) won the 3rd Vice Chancellor’s Challenge Cup held at Tarkwa last week.

The competition was organised in three categories — female male students and staff.

In the female category, Faculty of Engineering (FoE) ladies beat their counterparts, from the Faculty of Mineral Resources and Technology (FMRT) on penalties  to claim the top prize.  The winners took home trophies and cash awards while the runners-up received consolation cash prizes. 

 

In the men’s event which brought together 10 departments of the university, the department of Mechanical Engineering defeated their counterparts from Petroleum Engineering on penalties to claim the top prize comprising gold medals and a cash prize of GH¢1,500 presented by the Vice-Chancellor,  Prof. J.S.Y. Kuma.

The staff category comprising junior staff of UMaT, Ghana Manganese Company (GMC), banks and the Senior Staff/Senior Members of UMaT saw GMC emerging victorious after defeating Senior Staff/Senior Members.

In a remark, Prof. Kuma expressed his appreciation to all the participating teams and stated that the annual event was organised to bring together members of the university community and their stakeholders such as banks and mining companies to promote a harmonious co-existence. 

The Vice-Chancellor commended the organising committee and sponsors such as Fidelity Bank, Access Bank, Ghana Commercial Bank, Econah, Ghana Manganese Company, So Nice Drinking Water and Granock Enterprise Limited for a successful competition.
