Martha Bissah adjudged the most outstanding female athlete for the year

 

Ghana's female athletics prodigy, Martha Bissah, has been adjudged the most outstanding female athlete for the year at the Norfolk State University (NSU), where she is pursuing her career after successfully defending four gold medals she won last year.

Martha claimed four more gold medals at this year’s MEAC Indoor Track and Field Championships held last Saturday at the Prince George Sports and Learning Complex in the United States of America (USA), bringing the total number of gold medals she has won so far to eight, within two years.

Martha was part of the NSU’s 4x400 metres relaynteam which included Candice Higgins, Malika Pride and Chazmin Fullwood, and also took part in the
mile, the 3,000 metres race, the 800 metres race, as well as the NSU’s distance medley relay team.

By this feat, the 20- year-old athlete who has six
individual medals out of the total of eight was awarded the most outstanding female athlete for the year 2018.

Martha finished the realy in a time of 4:53.08 minutes and also posted a personal record of 10:07.07 minutes after running past two other athletes to win the 3,000
metres race.

A guardian of the athlete, Kweku Nimako, who briefed
the Graphic Sports about the exploits of his ward, was full of praise for the young athlete and urged her to remain focused.

Mr Nimako said he had always believed in the potential of Martha and that, given the necessary support, she could take the world by storm “Martha is yet to lose an individual race at the MEAC Indoor Track and Field
Championship”, he said, pointing out that the 20-year-old athlete has contributed immensely to the success story of the Spartan women who finished fifth in the MEAC Championship”.
