Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) President, Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, has thrown his support behind Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz, urging the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to retain him to lead the team's rebuilding process.
Coach Queiroz was appointed on a four-month contract to guide the Black Stars through the FIFA World Cup, with his future expected to be reviewed after the tournament.
Following Ghana's elimination after a 1-0 defeat to Colombia last Saturday, debate has intensified over whether the Portuguese tactician should remain in charge of the national team.
However, in an interview with Graphic Sports, Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe argued that Queiroz should be given the opportunity to continue, saying stability on the technical bench was essential for rebuilding the Black Stars.
"I feel we should maintain him for a limited period," he said, explaining that the coach should initially be offered a short-term contract, with any extension based on his performance.
Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe said the coach's mandate should go beyond preparing the senior national team for competitions. Instead, he believes Queiroz should be tasked with rebuilding the Black Stars by developing a youthful and competitive squad for the future.
"He should be made to know that he is going to train the boys from the scratch and make them very formidable," he stated.
The Hearts of Oak board member also expressed concern about the fitness levels of the current squad, attributing some of the team's struggles to a lack of consistent training.
He urged the coach to improve the players' conditioning while identifying and nurturing young talent capable of serving the national team for years to come.
According to Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe, Ghana's football revival will require patience, proper planning and a deliberate investment in youth development, particularly by giving more opportunities to locally based players.
He expressed confidence that with the right support and a clear long-term strategy, the Black Stars could regain their competitiveness on the international stage.
