Appiah, who was among thousands of music lovers who attended last Saturday’s "Africa Worship with Sonnie Badu" concert at the Accra Stadium, was presented with a framed shirt the UK-based musician used for a photoshoot for the concert amid loud applause.

Appiah and the gospel musician are good friends and the coach is often seen wearing Sonnie Badu branded cufflinks.

When the coach was invited to the stage he was given an ovation by the crowd in appreciation of his historic feat as the first Ghanaian to guide the national team to the World Cup.

Evangelist Dr Lawrence Tetteh and other pastors gathered around the hero and prayed for him to succeed at the World Cup.

Soft-spoken Appiah expressed his surprise and appreciation for the honour.

"I thank Sonnie Badu for this great gesture and I really appreciate it," he said.

"Everything I have achieved was as a result of God and the support from Ghanaians and I thank them all."
