Mr Amefu, who organised the third edition of the Greater Accra Taekwondo Open, where Jacob Quarshie emerged as the best fighter, said considering the skills exhibited and with adequate training and infrastructure, Ghana would make a mark in international competitions.

He said, “I will do all it takes for us to qualify for the next Olympics. I have taken it upon myself to develop the senior taekwondo athletes as well.

“Looking at the fights at the Olympics, Ghana should have done better if we were represented in taekwondo.

So we have to start from somewhere so that in the next Olympics, we surely be there’’, he declared.

Mr Amefu, who doubles as the President of Norlympics, said Ghana started developing the discipline ahead of Cote d’ I voire, but the latter was progressing because they (Cote d’ Ivoire) had a good management team.

“We are lacking the infrastructure to develop the sport in the country. If the right things are done, I think we will achieve results. We must select qualified people for the art.

Our players fight without modern techniques and skills which is very worrying", he added.
