Chalotte Fordjour — Poised to be a middle distance champion.

I am poised to win medals for Ghana — Charlotte Fordjour

After winning the girls’ 3,000 metres in a time of 10:44.22 minutes at last year’s National Schools and Colleges athletics competition in Wa, Charlotte Fordjour has set her sights on bigger goals and is working her way to becoming the dominant athlete in her field in future.

At 17 and a junior athlete, Charlotte has been motivated by her feat at the Wa championship and is looking forward to improving steadily as well as enlisting in the Ghana Police Service in the coming years as she works hard both on her academics and sporting commitments.

“I am now certain that I have the potential to improve and dominate the middle distance event not only in Ghana but also at the international level and as a result I’ve stepped up my training as I seek steady improvement to put me in good shape,” noted the final year General Arts student of Jachie-Pramso Senior High school.

Charlotte has a lot of work to do as her personal best time of 10:44.22 minutes is nowhere close to the national record of 9:46.8 minutes set by Gifty Abankwa in Accra 24 years ago, but the youngster is nonetheless motivated to work very hard to improve her technique and time under the guidance of her coach

“I am preparing for my final examinations, but that notwithstanding, I also make time for my training because middle distance events are very competitive and so there is the need to train regularly to maintain my form,” explained teenage athlete.

Charlotte’s athletics journey to the top of her event began only five years ago while she was in junior high school (JHS).

“In those days, I just ran for fun. But now I am taking it very serious because if I get to the top of my event it will not only present me opportunity to represent Ghana in future  but also I will  compete with top athletes in Africa and beyond,” she said.
