GNPC hands over astro turf to Adentan

The Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) has handed over an artificial turf at Man Momo in the Adentan Constituency to the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the area.

The facility, which is one of the numerous artificial turfs being constructed across the country, is an initiative of the GNPC’s Sports Infrastructure Project.

The Sports Infrastructure Project is aimed at economically empowering the youth through sports to improve their skills on standard FIFA pitches.

The pitch, which was officially handed to the Adentan Municipal Assembly, has floodlights and a fence. It is one of several social impact interventions by the GNPC Foundation across the country.

Speaking after an inspection of the facility, the Executive Director of GNPC Foundation, Dr Dominic Kwesi Eduah, stated that his outfit, as a corporate body, had made a deliberate policy to use a significant portion of its share of the oil revenue for social interventions such as building new artificial turfs to remarkably improve the quality of life of citizens.

He added that the facility would offer the youth within the community an avenue to polish their football talents.

“As we all know, with regular and consistent training and exercise comes good health and well-being. So, I implore all stakeholders to ensure this facility is maintained to serve its fullest purpose,” said Dr Eduah.

For his part, The MCE of the Adentan Municipality, Alexander Daniel Nii Noi Adumoah, who received the facility on behalf of the people, expressed gratitude to GNPC for providing them with a project the youth had earnestly waited for.

“Many of our youth in the community are naturally gifted footballers who need a facility such as this to exhibit their skills and we’re of the firm belief that the next Abedi Peles and Asamoah Gyans will be produced from this locality,” he said.
