Ghana is set to make its debut at the Point Boxing Sparring Circuit (PBSC) Championship and Seminar in California, USA, later this year, marking a significant step in the country’s participation on the international combat sports stage.
The International Kickboxing Federation (IKF-PKB) Ghana, led by President Ahmed Ibrahim, secured Ghana’s participation in the event, which will be organised by Born to Win Combat Competition at the Ontario Convention Center in Ontario, California.
The two-week programme in October 2026 will feature three major events. It will begin with the Southern State Championship SuperShow on October 11, followed by an international seminar from October 17 to 20, before concluding with the Championship Fight, IKF PMT and PBSC event on October 24.
Ghana will be represented in the championship by two fighters, Darku Salom and Osumanu Haruna, who will compete while carrying the hopes of Ghana and seeking valuable international exposure.
According to IKF-PKB Ghana President Ahmed Ibrahim, the participation goes beyond competition and is intended to strengthen the development of combat sports in Ghana.
According to him, the international seminar is expected to provide opportunities for Ghanaian officials to obtain international certification, while improving technical knowledge in PKB, PMT and PBSC disciplines.
The programme is also expected to promote safety-focused youth development, increase Ghana’s global recognition on the IKF platform, build the country’s capacity to host sanctioned IKF championships, and provide Ghanaian fighters with greater international exposure.
The IKF-PKB Ghana President acknowledged the support of National Sports Authority Director General Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, Minister for Sports and Recreation Kofi Adams, and Sharaf Mahama, son of President John Dramani Mahama, for their contributions to the development and promotion of combat sports in Ghana.
Ghana’s participation in the California event is therefore being viewed as an important opportunity to develop local technical capacity, expose fighters and officials to international standards, and strengthen the country’s position within the global combat sports community.
