FIFA approves new GFA statutes

The world football governing body, FIFA, has approved a new statutes submitted by the Normalisation Committee of the Ghana Football Association to help govern football in the country.

The endorsement, which was given yesterday, will be subject to approval by the GFA congress in the coming days.

A source close to the committee confirmed to the Daily Graphic in an interview yesterday that the working document had been given a seal of approval by the world governing body but they had to convene a congress to discuss the road map.

The source hinted that the Normalisation Committee was expected to meet on Monday to consider the road map for the return of normal competitions, including a new date for congress to approve the statutes and also a date for elections.

According to the source, it is at the congress that stakeholders will decide through votes whether to adopt the statute or reject it.

It is unclear the details of the new statute; however, there were recent media reports speculating that the Normalisation Committee was fashioning out a structural organogram which would do away with the position of GFA president.

According to the report, as part of restructuring of football in the country, the committee is considering changing the structure of the FA by forming a board, out of which a chairman will be selected to head the GFA.

Reports we are picking indicate that committee, as part of the road map for Ghana football, wants to change the structures of the FA by forming a board and selecting one person to be the chairman of the association instead of electing a president.
