According to reports, coach Stanley Azunda Eguma’s side have been denied the use of their home ground - the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium for the second season.
Last season, the Port Harcourt club also played their group stage home games in the competition at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium.
Rivers United are in Group C with Club Africain of Tunisia, Ghana’s Dream FC and APC Lobito of Angola.
The former Nigeria Premier Football League champions were eliminated at the quarter-final stage of the competition last season after losing 2-0 on aggregate to Young Africans of Tanzania.
They will be looking to make history as the first Nigerian side to win the CAF Confederation Cup.
The club was formed by the merger of Sharks FC and Dolphins FC in 2016.
