Coronation Park ban from hosting Bofoakwa

Premier League returnees, Tano Bofoakwa, are yet to know the venue for their home games after the Ghana Football Association (GFA) banned them from using the Sunyani Coronation Park.

The decision became necessary following a violent incident that happened during their game with Nsoatreman at the Coronation Park last Sunday.

A statement issued by the local football governing body directed the Competition Department of the GFA to fix new venues for the matches of Bofoakwa while the case was being determined.

“The association has instructed the Competitions Department to fix the venues for the upcoming home matches of Bofoakwa Tano FC, until the case is determined, with due regards to the distance to be travelled by the away teams (note that matches can be fixed at the home of the away team, if required)”, the statement said.

It also directed the club to immediately assist the police to arrest those involved in the violent attack on the away team, as well as the match officials as agreed by the club during their meeting with the police hierarchy.

“The GFA demands that Bofoakwa Tano FC shall immediately assist the Regional Police to cause the arrest of the persons involved in this attack on the away team, and the holding of the match officials hostage, without fail, in accordance with the promise given by the clubs to the Inspector General of Police in our engagement with the leadership of the Ghana Police Service.

The GFA Prosecutors have also been tasked to study all the video evidence and the match reports and prescribe appropriate charges immediately for the Disciplinary Committee to sit on the matter expeditiously.

The GFA again cautioned all members (especially all clubs) to desist from any form of harassment or attacks against players, team officials, or the match as the slightest of harassment or assault could attract severe sanctions.

Meanwhile, The Ministry of Youth and Sports ( MoYS) has charged the GFA to begin investigations into the attack on Maxwell Konadu, head coach of Nsoatreman and some players of the club.

A statement from the ministry strongly condemned the reprehensible violence that occurred during a league match and urged the GFA to collaborate with relevant stakeholders, including law enforcement agencies to ensure a thorough investigation into the incident.

It further tasked the football governing body to work closely with all necessary stakeholders to enhance security at all match venues, urging the Ghana Police Service to swiftly bring the perpetrators to justice.

“The ministry urges football enthusiasts and stakeholders to uphold the values of fair play, sportsmanship and respect, ensuring that Ghanaian football remains a source of pride and joy for all,” the statement added.
