Ghana’s football team last played at the games in 2008 and they have since not qualified to play in the last four editions.

But the 45-year-old gaffer believes their long absence at the competition would end this year as they are poised on qualifying besides their determination to win the AFCON trophy.

“Our target is to qualify to the Olympic Games but of course there is a trophy at stake, so we want to win it too”.

“Our preparations have been good. We started in Ghana and went to Egypt. Our objective is to qualify and to win the ultimate”, Coach Tanko said.

The coach who led the team to the last edition of the AFCON believes his experience has taught him some useful lessons that he hopes to capitalise on to overcome any hurdle.

“I was at the last edition of this competition in Egypt, so I have an idea how it’s going to be. All the teams deserve to be here, and I think it’s going to be a very good tournament”, he added.

The Black Meteors are expected to will open their U23 AFCON campaign on Sunday against Congo at the Prince Moulay Abdullah Stadium in Rabat.
