China-calling: Wakaso, Acheampong join Shenzhen FC

Ghanaian duo Mubarak Wakaso and Frank Acheampong will be teammates when the next Chinese Super League season gets underway after signing for Shenzhen FC.

The pair signed separate four-year contracts with Shenzhen FC who are owned by Property Development company the Kaisa Group. Both deals were free transfers.

Wakaso, 30, became a free agent in March after his club Jiangsu FC shut down operations after winning the CSL in 2020.

Acheampong, 27, parted ways with Tianjin Jinmen Tiger, two years after signing a new contract which was expected to end in June 2022. He joined them in 2018 from Belgian top-flight side Anderlecht.

His agent Oliver Konig said: "Many clubs were interested to sign Frank. Not only Chinese clubs, but we also had concrete offers from Europe and the Gulf region as well.

"Finally, Shenzhen turned out to present the most exciting project to Frank. He agreed on a four-year deal because his ambitions and the club’s ambitions matched pretty well. Frank will try his best to build a legacy there such as he did in Tianjin".
