Champions League draw: Real Madrid v Bayern, Liverpool v Roma

Real Madrid will face a familiar foe in the Champions League semifinals as the twice defending champions were drawn against Bayern Munich in Friday's draw.

Bayern versus Real has been a semi-final in the European Cup/Champions League on no fewer than six occasions, the most recent meeting in the final four coming in April 2014 - with Los Blancos defeating the Bavarian outfit 5-0 across two legs on their way to La Decima.

Mo Salah returns to former club Roma meanwhile as Liverpool were pitted against the Italian side that knocked out Barcelona in the quarterfinals.

Liverpool beat Manchester City 5-1 on aggregate to cruise through to their first Champions League semi-final for ten years.

Liverpool and Roma have not met in a competitive match since 2002 when Liverpool won 2-0 at Anfield to reach the last eight.

The sides had earlier drawn 0-0 in Italy and Liverpool's win at home was enough to pip their opponents to second spot in the group. Jari Litmanen and Emile Heskey were the scorers.

The two teams have met in pre-season friendlies three times in recent years, Roma winning all three matches.

When will the matches be played?

The Champions League semi-final first-leg ties will take place on Tuesday 24 and Wednesday 25 April with the second legs on May 1 and 2. The final is due to be played on Saturday, May 26 in Kyiv.
