CAF Confed Cup: ASEC pip Aduana 1-0

Aduana Stars were yesterday pipped 0-1 by ASEC Mimosas in Abidjan in the first match of their CAF Confederation Cup group game.

A 39th minute strike by former Asante Kotoko forward Ahmed Toure was what separated the Ghana Premier League champions and the former CAF Champions League champions.

Coach Yusif Abubakar described the result as ‘one of hard luck’ as his charges did all they could to at least earn a point from this game. Indeed, Yahaya Mohammed had the chance to equalise, but missed.

“It was not the result we had hoped for as we had prepared for at least a draw. ASEC are a big side and quite experienced in this competition. All is not lost, and at least, we did not concede many goals. We can draw inspiration from that and return home to prepare and recover in our subsequent matches at home.

“We are confident we can make it,” Coach Abubakar said in a telephone interview.

Aduana will return home, hopeful of recovering and getting their Group A campaign back on track as they play Morocco’s Raja Casablanca on May 16 at home and again host Congo’s AS Vita Club on July 18.

The other matches will be away to AS Vita Club on July 29, home to ASEC on August 19 and then travel to Morocco for the second leg against Casablanca on August 29.
