Bastie Samir warns Bukom Banku of early KO

Undefeated boxer, Bastie "The Beast" Samir, has warned Braimah Kamoko to be careful in his bid to knock him out in round six and rather prevent going down instead.

Bastie told the Graphic Sports yesterday during an opening training session at the Bukom Boxing Arena in Accra that he was ready to challenge Bukom Banku on Saturday, having prepared to engage his opponent on September 30 before the fight was rescheduled.

He was optimistic that Banku, who has won all his 29 fights, with 22 knockouts, will see his invincibility come to an end come on Saturday since he will be fighting a matured boxer.

"He has been going around preaching a sixth-round knockout but I want to warn him to be cautious so he does not go down instead.

"I was prepared to fight him on September 30 before the fight was rescheduled to this Saturday. “He should note that I am ready to beat him to end his undefeated record," he assured.

Bastie and Banku have been engaging in a war of words ahead of their much-awaited bout at the Bukom Boxing Arena on Saturday, with the latter pledging to end the night prematurely via a sixth-round knockout.

But Bastie, who remains an underdog ahead of the fight despite his 14 wins and a draw in 15 bouts, refused to engage Banku in preaching a knockout but was ready to defeat Banku anyway by taking his chances.

When asked whether he could stand toe to toe with Banku in a 12-round fight should the bout travel the full distance, Bastie said his professional record of 14 knockouts doesn't mean he cannot fight when it travels.

"I am not ready to preach knockout like he is doing but I will beat him at the end of the fight. I haven't travelled the distance in my fights because I normally knock my opponents out and I don't see that as a disadvantage should the bout travel," Bastie said.

Bastie will end Banku’s record — Coach Asare

The trainer of Bastie Samir, Ofori Asare, has described his boxer as a tougher opponent who will end Braimah Kamoko’s unbeaten record when they go head to head in Saturday's "Make or Break" fight at the Bukom Boxing Arena.

Coach Asare said Bastie "The Beast" goes into the fight against Kamoko, alias Bukom Banku, with a rich experience, unlike most fighters his opponent had fought in the past.

In a chat with the Graphic Sports ahead of the much-anticipated bout in Accra, Coach Asare was hopeful that his boxer would put up a good show to defeat Banku on the night.

"Bastie is a tougher opponent for Bukom Banku and I believe he will end his unbeaten record on Saturday when they lock horns in their bout.

"He possesses a rich experience in the sport, having fought in the United States for some time and he is better than most of the opponents Banku fought in the past," he said.

Banku (29-0) remains the favourite when he mounts the ring against Bastie (15-0-1), who will be out to cause an upset.

The much-publicised bout is being promoted by Box Office Sports Promotions and is expected to attract a lot of boxing lovers to the Bukom Boxing Arena, with crowd-puller Banku seeking to add Bastie to his list of victims.

When asked whether his boxer was ready to stop Banku, who has confidently predicted that he would end the fight prematurely with a sixth-round knockout, Coach Asare said he was not ready to be lured into that since most fighters had made similar predictions but failed to achieve it.

He, however, called on Banku to train harder to make the cruiserweight since that was the agreement in the contract signed but was confident that the rules governing the sport would be applied in case he fails during the weigh-in.

"There are several boxers who had promised knockouts but failed to achieve it and I don't want to be dragged into Banku's promise of a sixth-round finish.

"You need to know that Bastie has been at the Olympics and he is not just any boxer to be knocked out just like that. I want Banku to train harder to fight us in the cruiserweight," Coach Asare emphasised.
